The Surrey Langley Skytrain Project is designed to meet the needs of a growing population in the Fraser Valley, and to further enhance economic development in the region. This Skytrain Line extends the existing Expo Line an additional 16 kilometers east along the Fraser Highway from King George Station in Surrey to Langley Town Centre, and represents the first major rapid transit expansion south of the Fraser River in 30 years.

As an integral member of the South Fraser Station Partners team, Fast + Epp serves as the Structural Discipline Lead for all 8 stations, as well as providing detailed design for 5 of the 8 stations.

A “kit-of-parts” approach was adopted early in the design of the stations, thereby paving the way for a common structural design approach for overall economy and efficiency.

Mass timber features prominently in all of the stations to enhance the user experience of a “family of stations”. At the elevated platform level of each station, the roof will consist of cross-laminated timber, providing a common material vernacular to unify the station designs. At the concourse level, a more refined wood-steel hybrid system comprising mainly of free-formed nail-laminated timber will be deployed in the main entrance ceilings, allowing each station the opportunity for self-expression.
