The project combined a branch library on the entry level and an upper-level seniors and multicultural centre in a landmark building. The structural design had to house large open spaces and complex geometries, and to accommodate these needs, a steel structure was chosen for the roof and second floor.

The bright modern interior of the library is highlighted by expansive glazing, soaring roof forms, dramatic lighting, and public art pieces. The vibrant seniors centre provides program rooms, a light-filled gym, and numerous public spaces for community gatherings or quiet contemplation. The dark metallic mass of the building contrasts perfectly with the public areas that are light in colour.

The new building is not only architecturally impressive but is LEED Gold certified with an energy savings of 41 percent when compared to the Model National Energy Code for Buildings in Canada. The centre is proving to be an open and inviting space that will be appreciated by generations to come.
