The design of this secondary school takes a fresh approach to learning by providing traditional classrooms with interspersed flexible study areas as well as a large interconnected atrium in the academic wing. The central hub is a large two-storey library and common space that brings together the social and educational aspects of a school.

The central atrium and flexible learning spaces created open spaces and floating walkways. To achieve this aesthetic, the steel structure had to be carefully placed between the concrete cores. At the hub, the structure transitioned from steel to mass timber as the primary structural element to give the space an inviting warmth that is equally suited for studying or socializing.

As a facility for 1,400 students, Belmont Secondary School comes with many supportive programs as well as external partnerships to boost community health and wellness.
