Walmart Officially Opens its new Home Office Campus in Bentonville, Ark.
January 20, 2025
This 350-acre campus sets a new standard for corporate headquarters, sustainability, and environmental leadership, utilizing mass timber on an unprecedent scale that makes this project the largest application of mass timber in the U.S. More than 2 million square feet – over 50 percent of the campus – is built with mass timber, including 12 office buildings that are constructed as timber or hybrid-timber structures.
With a phased opening approach for the campus, Fast + Epp is proud to be the structural Engineer of Record on the following cohort of buildings that are now open:
- Sam Walton Hall, a 200,000-square-foot, two-story auditorium comprised of steel and concrete.
- 8th & Plate, a dynamic food hall offering global cuisine, featuring mass timber porches.
- Offices (Cheer and Ol’ Roy), with more scheduled to open throughout the year. Fast + Epp has provided our mass timber expertise on the 11 mass timber office buildings, consisting of nine 4-storey steel-timber hybrid buildings and two 5-storey mass timber buildings, and utilizing lateral force resisting systems consist of CLT shearwalls and either steel- or timber-braced-frames for the hybrid and timber buildings, respectively.
- Walton Family Whole Health & Fitness Centre, a 360,000-square-foot comprehensive and state-of-the-art fitness centre, featuring a gym, basketball courts, indoor track, yoga studio, pool, and more. The featured Rotunda reciprocal framing, as well as the pool trusses, both use hybrid timber framing in this structure.
- Little Squiggles Children’s Enrichment Center, on-site childcare facilities comprised of steel and concrete.
