Largely built on a car-centred model, transportation infrastructure in Edmonton is undergoing a transformation. In recent years, civic and provincial planners have prioritized sustainability, community-mindedness and innovation when it comes to new architecture projects.

Fast + Epp has been a key player in many of these projects – Jasper Place Library, Mill Woods Seniors’ Activity Centre, the Stanley A. Milner Library revitalization and the Coronation Community Recreation Centre to name a few. Thus, we were keen to provide our concept design for the Edmonton Valley Line Light-Rail Transit project when a pursuit was announced.

Our structural design consisted of 11 street-level stops, a new above-ground station, a new connector to the existing Churchill Station and a pedestrian bridge.

We believe in the transformational potential of light-rail transit to reshape Edmonton through transit-oriented development, connecting communities and businesses in an environmentally-friendly and socially-conscious way. When completed, the Valley Line will cover 27km, crossing through Edmonton’s downtown from Mill Woods to Lewis Farms.
